Discover the grace and heartbeat of hula in our group classes and private lessons for all ages.

At Hoakalei Hula Studio, every step honors our heritage, strengthens cultural identity,

and invites each dancer to move with intention and aloha.

Rooted in Tradition

Hula begins from the ground - where our feet connect to the ʻāina, and our stories rise with every step. At Hoakalei Hula Studio, we teach from the foundation up: intention, posture, breath, and aloha.

Our haumāna (students) are guided by their kumu (teacher) and experienced dancers who surround them with kindness, focus, and aloha. We honor the unique rhythm of every haumāna - nurturing a space where confidence blooms, joy is felt, & connection to hula grows from the inside out.

Where Growth Begins

Strength through Discipline,

Confidence through Hula

Each class blends technique, discipline, and cultural learning. Through rhythm, repetition,

and intention, our dancers build confidence, strength, and cultural pride - learning not only how to hula, but how to carry its values,

stories, and aloha into everyday life.

Hula Beyond the Dance

At Hoakalei Hula Studio, we weave culture into every lesson. Through mele, moʻolelo, and the foundations that anchor identity, our haumāna deepen their understanding of who they are - so every movement reflects heritage, intention, and pride.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do you cater to at Hoakalei Hula Studio?

We welcome dancers of all ages - keiki (ages 5-12), teens, adults, and kūpuna.

Classes are grouped by age and experience so every haumāna (student) can learn at a pace that feels comfortable and uplifting.

Im a beginner. Can I still join a class?

Absolutely!

We offer beginner-friendly classes that start with the fundamentals of hula. No previous dance experience is needed - just come as you are, and weʻll guide you every step of the way.

What should I wear to a Hula class

Wear loose, breathable clothing, and a solid black top.

For women, a black leotard or solid black top with a pāʻū hula (hula skirt - if you have one) is recommended.

If you donʻt have a pāʻū hula yet, please bring your own pareu to tie and dance in.

Don't worry if you don't have any of these items - just come to class and we will help you!

Can I join the classes at any time?

Absolutely! You can join our classes at any time.

Whether youʻre new to hula or returning after a break, weʻll help you settle in and grow at your own rhythm.

Are there performances or recitals for students?

Yes! We offer opportunities for our haumāna to perform.

We participate in community celebrations and host our own recitals. These performances give our dancers opportunities to grow in confidence, share their aloha, and showcase what theyʻve learned.

Performances are always optional, and dancers can choose when they feel ready to participate.
